Academy of the Arts
Citipointe Christian College's Instrumental Music, Voice, Speech and Drama AcademyIntroductionCitipointe Christian College offers an outstanding and diverse Academy of the Arts. Our tutors, many of whom are performing artists, provide instruction at all levels in orchestral/band instruments as well as keyboard, guitar, percussion, voice and speech and drama. To encourage as many students as possible to participate in the Arts program, fees are competitive and lessons are held during school hours. Our philosophyThe Academy encourages students to express their creativity through music, dance and drama and to share their gifts with each other, the College, and the Church body. Our highly qualified tutors assist students to become artists whose talents contribute to the praise, worship, adoration of and reflection on God. The Academy also helps students to develop the disciplines required to work in band, orchestra, choirs and ensemble groups. Citipointe Christian College places great emphasis on its Arts Program as it provides many opportunities for students to reflect the vision of the College in their pursuit of excellence. Who can enrol?Enrolment in instrumental, voice, dance and speech & drama is open to all students, although some age restrictions apply and places in some classes are limited. Students from Year 2 and above can enrol at the beginning of any term, although we encourage you to enrol your child at the start of the school year (Year 1 students will be offered the Introduction to Music program). All students who learn a band/ensemble instrument are required to join a band/ensemble at their appropriate playing level. Available tuitionThe Academy offers tuition on more than 18 instruments and in a range of performing arts.
In all tuition areas other than dance classes (which are conducted out-of-school hours), lessons are conducted weekly during school time. Lessons are conducted on a three-week rotation basis so students do not miss the same class each week. If your student requires a group lesson but a partner of similar standard is not available, they may enrol in an individual lesson or join a waiting list for an appropriate partner. AttendanceStudents are expected to attend all lessons. If absent, their tutor or the College office must be notified no later than 8am on the day of the lesson. We will attempt to reschedule the lesson, if possible. Absence due to excursions or exams should be notified to the tutor by 9am the preceding day in order to have the lesson rescheduled where possible. Lessons missed for any other reason will not be made up. WithdrawalIf a student wishes to withdraw from tuition, a letter from the parent to to the tutor is required before the end of term in which tuition is being received. Unless we notification is received prior to end of term, the full fee for the following term will be charged . As student enrolment is scheduled on a term basis, withdrawal from the program mid-term is NOT acceptable. Access to InstrumentsInstrumental students MUST have daily access to an instrument. it does not need to be the most expensive instrument, but it needs to be durable and of reasonable quality (capable of producing musical sound and of being in tune). Instruments for hire: The following instruments are available for hire for up to 12 months: flute, clarient, saxaphone, trumpet, rombone, baritone, tuba, violin, viola and cello. After 12 months, students are requred to supply their own instruments. This will enable the hire of instruments to new students entering the program. The purchase of an instrument is a significant financial investment which require commitment from your student - and which will also motivate them to achieve their best. AssessmentYour student's tutor will provide a progress report at the end of each semester which will be forwarded to you along with the College Report. Books/ResourcesStudents are required to purchase the necessary tutor books which are available at the College uniform store, or from music stores. |
