Instrumental Music, Speech & Drama

BRASS

Mr Stuart Bent holds a Bachelor of Music (Instrumental) degree at Queensland Conservatorium of Music.  He performs regularly with Queensland Symphony Orchestras and other professional groups.  He is a member of Brisbane Excelsior Brass Band.  He has taught for a number of years at schools plus his home studio.  He is currently secretary of the Australian Trombone Association and does freelance trombone playing including radio performances and soundtrack recording.

PERCUSSION

Mr Daniel Gibney has a wide range of professional performance and touring experience, including performances with Youth Alive Queensland and PlanetShakers. He has toured internationally and throughout regional Queensland. Daniel has taught percussion for over 5 years at home, in a number of brisbane schools, and in various music schools. He teaches a wide variety of styles including jazz, blues, funk and orchestral and classical percussion.

CLARINET AND SAXOPHONE

Mrs Julie Elvery studied for her Bachelor of Music and Graduate Diploma of Instrumental Performance majoring on clarinet at Queensland Conservatorium of Music.  She holds a Licentiate of Music, Australia on clarinet and Associate of Music, Australia on piano and saxophone.  She taught for 12 years at a number of schools in Brisbane plus her home studio.  She is a freelance musician, performing with Queensland Philharmonic Orchestra and chamber groups. 

FLUTE

Mrs Cathy Anderson received her Associate in Music, Australia in 1976 whilst studying for her degree in Physiotherapy at The University of Queensland.  She teaches flute, piano & saxophone at a number of schools and music schools in Brisbane plus her home studio.  She directs a number of ensembles and bands.  In 1993 she received a Rotary Club “Pride of Workmanship” Award in the area of music and has been involved with the Harvest Rain productions orchestra and plays in a trio at various functions.

GUITAR AND ELECTRIC BASS

Mr Simon Geeves (an alumnus of the College) studied at Queensland Conservatorium of Music receiving his Bachelor of Music (Instrumental - Jazz Guitar).  He plays in various cover bands and is a current band member of Youth Alive Queensland. He has toured with Planet Shakers/Youth Alive in Malaysia. He teaches at a number of schools and also privately. 

PIANO / KEYBOARD / INTRODUCTION TO MUSIC / STRINGS

Mrs Kendre Bent (nee Herschell, an alumnus of the College) holds a B Music degree from Queensland Conservatorium of Music.  She teaches violin and piano in home studio, and has taken workshops in various schools.  She is involved in a number of performing ensembles including South Brisbane Federal Band.  She was awarded Mt Gravatt District Young Achievers Award for Music in 2000. 

KEYBOARD / PIANO / MUSIC TECHNOLOGY

Mr Ian Thomson is an Associate of Music, Australia on piano, and holds a Master of Music Technology degree from The University of Newcastle and a Bachelor of Computing degree from Central Queensland University.  He has performed on piano at concerts and with bands, and has followed a career in electronics particularly in the area of music/computing and uses this ability in lessons.  He has been musical director of local church, and is experienced sound and recording technician.  He has a teaching and recording studio at his home.

STRINGS

Miss Cristina Zanfir studied at the Bucuresti Conservatorium and School of Music and the Queensland Conservatorium of Music. She holds a Bachelor of Music double majoring in Violin and String Pedagogy, and is presently completing a Masters of Music in String Pedagogy.  Cristina currently conducts a number of string ensembles at primary and secondary levels, teaches in a number of schools and performs in a quartet at many functions.

VOICE

Mrs Kathryn Dunstan (nee Forster, an alumnus of the College) received a Graduate Certificate in Music Studies from the Queensland Conservatorium of Music, and an Associate Diploma in Speech and Drama from Trinity College London. She has taught for over 10 years in a number of Brisbane schools and music schools. She owns and manages a vocal services business providing tuition and professional entertainment services.

SPEECH AND DRAMA

Miss Joanna Butler holds a Bachelor of Theatre Arts from the University of Southern Queensland majoring in Acting, and an Associate Diploma in Speech a& Drama (Teaching) from Trinity College London (1999). She has been involved in many eisteddfods and competions and has experience in teaching young children ta number of schools in South East Queensland.
